Solapur-Yedeshi Highway: An Important Lifeline of Many Cities and Towns

Nearly 5 years since IRB Infrastructure got into a concession agreement with NHAI, Solapur-Yedeshi has turned into one of the major arterial corridors.

Road connectivity is one of the most important aspects to maximize economic and infrastructural development of a city, state and nation at large. Especially, the highways are considered as the backbone of strong socio-economic transformation and prosperity. 

Solapur-Yedeshi highway project is an important lifeline for a number of cities and towns. Over the years, the authorities have taken decent measures to develop it into a world class highway for the growth of several districts, which are dependent on it to connect with other cities and towns.   

However, an important development took place in 2014, when an SPV of IRB Infrastructure Developers Ltd and the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) entered into a concession agreement to develop, operate and maintain the Solapur-Yedeshi section of NH 211 project.  

The aim was to expand the 98.717 km section from two lanes to four lanes for fast and safe connectivity. After the completion of the project, Solapur-Yedeshi highway turned into a busy corridor. Better connectivity not only ensured the even flow of commodities, but also helped in the distribution of the products in the least possible time. The Solapur-Yedeshi NH 211 project caters to urban, suburban and regional traffic. 

The entire section of Solapur-Yedeshi highway includes a number of flyovers, intersections and bridges, offering a world class passage to the commuters. The highway has played a major role in benefiting the local agriculture through quick transportation of good, such as vegetables, fruits and dairy products. Better connectivity has improved the quality of living, especially for the people residing on the outskirts of the city.  

The development of infrastructure along the road has facilitated growing tourism and pilgrimage in the area. A number of real estate projects are also coming up along the corridor. Top real estate companies have come up with residential projects that enjoy great connectivity to the Solapur-Yedeshi highway. On the other hand, modern businesses, industries and traders are looking for big commercial spaces around the highway. One needs to appreciate that how this link will be a boost to tourism in Solapur as it is surrounded by couple of Sanctuaries and Pilgrimage locations like Solapur itself, Akkalkot, Tulajapur, etc.
