6 Essential Indian Interior Designing Concepts Update

India is a country once known for its immense wealth and royalty. It still remains to be one of the most diverse cultures with a rich heritage and history. The role of Interior Design in the ecstasies of our royal kings and queens can be clearly seen in architecture marvels like Taj Mahal. Though times have changed and foreign interior design styles like Minimalist, Contemporary and Zen are gaining importance amidst Indian mindset.

Our Indian culture is thousands of years old and our interior designing concepts and styles are a reflection of a hugely diverse and rich nation. While decorating your house in the Indian traditional way, a great way to get your colour palette is to look at the warm and vibrant colours of the Indian spices.

Vibrant Colors

Color is the most distinct characteristic of Indian interior design as the country itself is a land characterised by different colors, languages and cultures. Rich, dark, vibrant colors and deep burnt shades against lighter backgrounds define the color palette of Indian interior design. To narrow things down, one could draw inspiration from the colors of Indian spices like chilli, cinnamon and pepper.

Paisley Pattern

Patterns and motifs are a vital part of Indian interior design. These include the version of the paisley pattern, intricate mandala motifs and nature-inspired themes with flowers, birds, animals. Patterns could be drawn on throw pillows, bed spreads, wall hangings, knotted rugs and any other upholstery that involves textiles. Paisley is the most popular pattern and Indian silk and cotton are the popular textiles of choice in Indian home décor.

Wooden Furniture

Wood is the most widely used furniture material when it comes to Indian interior design and exotic wood like rosewood, teak and ebony are the most preferred types. In fact, Indian artists are noted for beautifully turning the imperfections of wood to give out a rustic appearance. Heavy wooden tables, bench-style sofas and carved wooden chairs are a few notable choices.

Lots of Houseplants

While bright hues and warm colours are in the trend this season, modern interior designers call for natural accents and relaxing green to balance things out. Houseplants, vertical gardens and live wall designs are a big hit among designers this year. The harmonise living spaces and create healthy surroundings to live in. Additionally, they accentuate urban living spaces.

Statues & Rich Artefacts

Statues of Hindu Gods and Goddesses made from bronze, wood, silver or gold look very good in Indian styled rooms. Look for interesting hand carved artworks available in most stores dealing in Indian artefacts across the country. Ganesha and Buddhas also add immense personality to any Indian home.

Floors

Indian climate is relatively sunny and flooring plays a major role in keeping the home cooler. Granite, which is stain resistant, durable and less maintenance is the most preferred choice in Indian interior design. Marble which is also durable and attractive is preferred by many, although its lustrous surface could fade with time.
